English2Success (E2S) Tutoring Cultural Exchange Program at UF

Hello! Thank you for your interest in joining our new E2S team at UF. I'm Muhammed Enes, a freshman at UF, and the founder of English2Success (E2S). I've written down some information about the new program and E2S below.

On E2S

English2Success is a voluntary teaching initiative aimed at providing quality online English education for underprivileged teens worldwide. E2S lessons are conducted online, pairing each student with a tutor. The tutor hosts a weekly session at a time that works for both parties and teaches the student to the best of their ability. More information about this is available in the About E2S page.

A Brief History

I founded E2S while studying at an international school in Germany in 2022. Everyone spoke English really well at my school, and I realized they could tutor students from impoverished areas in my country over Zoom. In most third-world countries, English teachers don’t speak English well themselves, so simply having the chance to speak with someone fluent in the language can greatly boost a student’s abilities.

The program was a major success in its first year. Most students were very satisfied. When I realized the impact it had on them, I wanted to grow it even further to help more students. That’s when we started expanding to other international schools—several in Europe, one school in Hong Kong, one in China, one in the USA, and one in Costa Rica.

Today, over 150 volunteers from these schools tutor students who really can’t afford English education. Most of the students are from countries like Afghanistan, Malawi, India, and Thailand.

About the New Team at UF

As a TESL/English student reading this, you might think that high schoolers trying to teach English to these students won’t be able to do an excellent job because they don’t have the technical knowledge to teach as effectively as possible. You would be absolutely right. If students could learn from better tutors, they would progress much faster. This is where the new team comes in.

As a part of this team, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Tutor a student one-on-one.
- Host larger classes that multiple students can attend, like a pronunciation class.
- Help develop our current tutors by offering teaching workshops (I’m also looking forward to learning from you!)

You’re not expected to do all these things—you can work on one or more depending on your interests or pursue something different alltogether. Our work together will also allow you to collaborate and connect with fellow TESL peers. This team will likely formalize as a student organization at UF next semester. However, this doesn’t mean that we expect you to attend boring general body meetings or vote on an executive board. It won’t be a traditional club. The main reason for registering as a club is to get funding from student government to help us host socials, buy food and drinks for those socials, create merchandise for members, etc. However, you should be ready to commit around two hours per week to the program.

My Personal Experience with E2S

When I first started the program, I tutored a student for three months. After that time, I could clearly see how much more confident he was in speaking, and how much his skills had improved. He even told me he was accepted into a fully funded European Union exchange program, letting him explore a completely new world. This was an opportunity that he had never anticipated before. The reason he was accepted was because of the speaking skills he developed with my help through E2S. It felt amazing to know I had played a part in his success. It’s an incredible experience to see how much your student grows.

If you’re interested in gaining hands-on TESL experience, working with international students, and making a difference, I urge you to consider joining. Feel free to email me at mbilek@ufl.edu if you have any questions. I’ll respond as soon as I can!
